A large share of a wastewater plant’s operating cost comes from sludge. Reducing its volume directly cuts transport and disposal costs.
Step 1: Thickening
Biological sludge contains about 1% solids. Gravity or mechanical thickeners raise this to 3–5%, cutting the volume by more than half.
Step 2: Dewatering
- Belt press: continuous, low energy use; economical for medium and large plants.
- Filter press: reaches the highest dryness; ideal for industrial and chemical sludge, works in batches.
- Centrifuge: compact and enclosed; higher energy and maintenance cost.
Polymer selection
Choosing the right polyelectrolyte and dose is the most important factor in dewatering efficiency. The choice should always be based on laboratory tests.
We manufacture belt presses, sludge thickeners and polymer make-up units in our own workshop.
